Professional Optical – Since 1974

Family Owned in Southern Alberta for the Past 40 Years.

Professional Optical has been serving Southern Alberta for the past 40 years. Since 1974 Professional Optical has been a locally owned family operation; who specializes in customer service. Located in Downtown Lethbridge, Professional Optical is a full service dispensary, providing vision testing, full contact lens services and a huge selection of frames and sunglasses.

“You know when we started out, there were no computers, there was very little consideration for fashion, especially in younger people’s eyewear, and the technology was light years behind what you see in our vision center today”, said owner Bruce Plausteiner. However, now Professional Optical is the most technologically advanced dispensary in Southern Alberta, offering retinal imaging, computerized sight testing, cutting edge contact lenses and personalized digitally surfaced lenses for “High Definition Vision”; using the exclusive Visioffice 2.0 HD facial scanner. “Being independently owned we have no restrictions. As a result, we can offer our patients the best frames, sunglasses, contacts and lenses the world has to offer.”, adds Bruce.

“Our promise to our customers is the Best Service, Quality and Selection, all for the Best Price.”, said son of Bruce, Dean Plausteiner. Dean and his wife Tina also work at Professional Optical. They have worked in the optical industry for over a combined 30 years, and plan on continuing the tradition of unmatched top-notch service for years to come.

Both Bruce and Dean are award winning opticians. The biggest accolade came in 2011, when Bruce was inducted into the College of Opticians of Alberta’s Hall of Fame for his years of service and exceptional contributions to the industry in Southern Alberta. Dean, following in his father’s footsteps, won the Justin Holmes Memorial Scholarship in 2003 for the highest achievement on the Practical Licensing Exam.

Professional Optical boasts an incredible line up of designer eyeglasses and sunglasses from Ray Ban, Prada, Tiffany & Co., Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, to name a few, and boast the largest selection of Oakley in Southern Alberta. “When you compare our prices to anywhere else on the same product, including contacts, we won’t be undersold” continued Bruce. Professional Optical also provides a 15% discount to students and 50% off the second pair purchased at the same time.

“Eyecare and eyewear should be fun! I hope that’s what every one of our customers feels after they leave” said Dean. The one thing you can’t mistake when you go into Professional Optical is their fun and friendly atmosphere provided by their very knowledgeable staff. When asked what keeps Bruce, Dean, his wife, and the staff going for over 40 years Bruce replied, “It’s an honor looking after our patients. This is my passion. The rewards are endless. For forty years, I have had the best job in the world.”
